THE BEST OF THE REST
There were some very close
battles further down the touring car grid. Jason Faulkner (Corally)
and Ian Finch (TC4) only separated by 6 points for the second and third
spots. Jason had to play catch-up after missing the first 4 meetings but consistently
pulled in the big points and even gained the more points than anyone else
from the final round and so just beat Ian to the Second place spot.
There was only 3 points
between fourth and fifth positions overall in the championship. Matt
Morden (Yokomo SSG) held the lead through the second half of the season
whilst Rory Elston (Rclab) closed the gap. It came down to the final race
of the final meeting. Rory led for the first lap and was on course to
leap-frog Matt in the championship but crashed out in spectacular style.
So Matt took fourth place overall. Ali
Cother has been driving brilliantly all year and is the youngest driver to
consistently make the A final - yet he always looks comfortable when he
does (despite his complaints!). Take notes all other young drivers - Ali's
car often beats those that are faster in a straight line than it because
he drives it smoothly and making very few mistakes. Lets hope that
he can make the A regularly in the 2005/6 season to really bring up the
performances of this promising young driver. He was just beaten to the 6th
spot in the championship by Trevor Morden who joined the championship in
round 7 with a new car and put in some consistent finishes. Bo
Franklin and Mark Male were rewarded for their commitment taking the 8th
and 9th spots in only their first full season. A
very special mention goes to Kieran Cliff who only just got the full 8
counting rounds but often looked very smooth - aided by the superb
preparation of his Dad. Kieran has only had half a seasons racing but when
he took it steady and concentrated he was one of the best young drivers. |
