SLCC RACE OF CHAMPIONS SOUTHAMPTON

Below Left: Ashley takes home the silverware, Below Right: The Southampton track on race day.

Race day was a wet affair to start with, in 27t stock the club had Kieran Clift and Ashley Finch at both ends of the final list both went off to a cracking start with Kieran getting a third and Ashley a second after taking the lead and then getting knocked off the track in the 19t class we had Dave Clift, Darren Sullivan and Lex Shanks in the D Final and Ian Finch in the B Final , the lads got off to a smashy start all trying to get in front of the other - a typical Yateley start. Mean while Ian in the with the big boys went from 9th to 4th in the first round - could this last? We all continued with wet tyres till the 4th round by this time Kieran was in 3rd place overall Ashley in 2nd and the 19t boys all over the place. Lex was way down the list with Darren and Dave having a mare with the water getting in both his receiver and Kieran's Speedo meanwhile Ian got a 3rd in

his final to give him 3rd overall by the time the track went dry and we changed to slicks and the Clifts had dried out there equipment the pace hotted up Kieran had some close combat with other drivers and together with a light weight shell bending and trapping his tyres he did not do as well in the last round which lost him a trophy Ashley went on to win 3 finals with 2 seconds gave him the 1st place together with the most wins by any driver at the meeting and  was presented with the driver of the day so came home with 2 to his credit meanwhile back in the 19t class Lex continued with his earlier form. Darren's Car had a mind of its own by not doing what it was told and going off at nearly every part of the track to which he said at one point I am going to stop racing today and watch you chaps and grab a pint , as there is a pub right next to the track, I hasten to add he did continue and did not turn to drink. Dave was having trouble with corners as this is a very tricky track to drive and at one stage was in 3 place overall to the amazement of most of the squad then finished 5th

Ian meanwhile continued with his good form had three 4th places and a 5th and then in the final race of the day the cars stopped with 3 laps to go which must have been a sticky brush after the rain  picking sandy grit up off the track never mind that DNF gave him an overall 5th place.

We all had a good time enjoyed the day and look forward to next years Championship round the country.

Its been fun we started with Southampton then we went to Tolworth then Aldershot Barham Bashley, and then back to Southampton for the race of Champions
