SUCCESS AT BARHAM 8th JULY 2007

Report By Ian Finch

The day started with a nice leisurely chauffer driven drive to Kent starting at 5.30am on Sunday morning,  not much traffic on the road at that time of day, sun not even up in the sky properly.

Arrived at  the Braham track about 7.15, long old drive, set up the gazebo and tables, round came the sausages and bacon rolls just in time for breakfast. After booking in there was nearly 100 drivers  on the day.

We had  a good driver turn out from Yateley  with Team Finch Chassis represented by Ian and Ashley together with Team Clift Dave and Kieran and not forgetting the mud slinger Ian M.also there Tony and Martin.

Ian M  being the last one to arrive went straight past our tented village and then got stuck in the mud after being prompted to come back round.

The heats got off sharp at 9.00, and the first round both Kieran and Dave had problems with other drivers so not impressed with their first round, Ian M completed 2 laps much to the disgust of Jenny his wife who was in Charge of Team Mullaney for the day, not that it inspired Ian to drive any better. Ashley turned in a blistering first round so to did Ian IF and Darren,  Tony and Martin were in the heat before Ian and Darren,   Tony was finding his new TC5 a bit to much to handle so it was back to the table for Tony to sort out a new set up

Dave was  accosted by another drivers wife with the call of "are you the clifts"?, who thought his driving was not up to standard,  she was in no mood to have a laugh with so we all beat a hasty retreat to leave Dave to sort things out, we could see he had things under control,, it turned out it was nothing to do with Dave, but Kieran, and that was rich considering he had been taken out at least 3 times in 2 heats.

Dave thanked us all for the support.

Rounds 2 and 3, Ashley Ian F and  Darren improved  with Ian F's car gripping the Barham track like it was glued to it with a very fast turn of speed, Ian said, his car was better than at the tolworth round, and it was brilliant there, this was going to be a good days racing for the   tfracing team

the finals arrived, Kieran was 10th in the D stock ,Davo was 1st in the Estock, Tony was 1st , Martin 3rd Ian M was 5th all in the D Final 19t

Ashley qualified 6th in the C final stock,  Ian F 4th in the C19t, Final Darren 5th in the C final.19t

After the 2 leg Finals these are the results Davo 1st E Final Stock, Tony 1st D Final 19t, Martin 3rd D Final 19t, Ashley 1st C final Stock, Darren 3rd Final 19t, Ian F 2nd C Final 19t unfortunately Kieran and Ian M finished out of a trophy position but enjoyed the day

The Yateley Crew went home with 6 trophies in all, had a blinding days racing, and really enjoyed the day, the weather even stayed bright and sunny for the best part of the day, the only down side was no pork sarnies, it also looks like the last SLCC at this track as the owner is selling up to down size, this is a shame as its a first class venue for National racing and the owner and his wife have always made us very welcome.
